Reaction Engineering

CHAPTER 1

Chapter 1 was not really hard compared to another chapters, plus this kind of learning method works on me to recap and understand more about the subject and chapter. Tq

CHAPTER 2

In the chapter 2 lessons, I learn about conversion and reactor sizing. I leant that levenspiel plot was using to estimate the reactor size in flow reactor. Example as, in CSTR reactor the area that we calculated was the volume or the size reactor is in rectangular shape meanwhile in PFR reactor, area under the graph is the volume of the reactor. I also can evaluate which reactors series are the best combination of reactors arrangement.

CHAPTER 3

In the chapter 3 lessons, I learn about rate law and stoichiometry. Rate law that can be defined as the relationship between the chemical species and their stoichiometry, and I also learn about reaction order that involved in the reaction, started with zeroth order until second order. However, I have a little misunderstanding in determine the order in the questions problem. In this chapter also, I learn about type of reactions and the activation energy that can be calculated by using Arrhenius law and determination of reaction rate constant.

Next, team game tournament that was held was quite thrilling actually, however it also fun because it test our understanding in the group. The competition and survival games were applying in this game make it interesting, so that it make the students including me to do the best in the games.

CHAPTER 4

This Chapter 4 is about the combining Chapter 1 and 2 and Chapter 3 (Reactions) in designing various types of reactor by logical structure. For Chapter 4,solving the problem given in the class which focuses on conversion and volume of the reactor.  I can picture the problem to solve as an Chemical Engineer as this chapter use logic rather than memorizing. This experience was really good and useful. It really requires strong base fundamental from earlier chapters. Revison back Chapter 1 until 3 before entering Chapter 4.

CHAPTER 5

Chapter 5 is about determining and analyzing reaction rate data to obtain the rate law for specific reaction by using different methods. The methods are differential method, integral method, method of half-lives, method of initial rates and least square analysis. Focusing on two type of reactor which are Batch Reactor and Differential Reactor. It is important to find rate law for specific reactions to size in isothermal reaction system. This chapter focuses on many type of method. Even in different type of methods. This chapter requires some revision to be mastered so that would not be confused to use which method for which specific problem.

CHAPTER 6
This Chapter 6 actually based on multiple reactions. There are 4 basic type of reactions which are series, parallel, complex and independent. The Desired and Undesired products and Selectivity must be obtained from the data. One of the key factor in economic success of chemical plant is the minization of undesired reactions that occur along with the desired reaction. This factor is emphasized in this chapter. This chapter was really important in solving the Problem Based Learning on Development of Catalytic Membrane Reactor. However, it was not satisfied to be solved on the due date given.

Separation Process II

CRYSTALLIZATION

First of all, the first chapter that I learned is crystallization. In this chapter, I learned that crystal can be obtained by many equipments or reactors. For example agitated tank, non agitated tank, oslo and others. Addition or advance tools like pump, circulation technique, cooling and others were added in making more product of crystallization. Jigsaw activities that was held through this activities make me understands more about the chapter.

adsorption

In this chapter of adsorption, I learned about more about adsorption. The definition and the differences between adsoption with absorption. The differences between adsorbate, adsorbent and the factor that influence the amount of adsorbate. Then, we are being teached how to calculate the breakpoint, fraction through sub chapter of MTZ (mass transfer zone).

ION EXCHANGE

In this chapter i learn about separation process through ion exchange. The concentration between positive and negative are very important in determine the rate of ion exchanging. Throughout the chapter, the learning process are great between my teamates also the connections between lecturer and students are quite nice. This is because everybody try their in contributing infos.

MEMBRANE SEPARATION

In this chapter, I learn how the separation process can be happened through membrane. Its very important in specification of type of membrane as the tools in separation. Example as palladium alloy membrane which is classified as hybrid membrane, is known as the membrane in separating gas like oxygen and nitrogen. Im quite happy in this chapter because the cooperations throughout learning process are very awesome, its make me understands much better. I hope it will be continue in future.

EVAPORATION

As we know, evaporations process also known as separation process by removing the water from the solid that is needed. The evaporation process always take place in liquid phase by removing them from solid and become concentrated.
